Privacy notice.

Who handles your information, what leaves your device, and how to contact us.

Updated 16 October 2026. The Half is operated by Adam Jones, an independent developer in the UK and the controller of the personal information described here. Email hello@callthehalf.com for privacy questions or requests.

Joining the waitlist

When you join, we store your email address, the form you used, your optional role and a referral code from the link you followed. We use these to manage the waitlist, understand where interest comes from and email you when the app launches. Joining does not start a paid subscription.

We rely on your consent to send the launch email and our legitimate interests in administering the waitlist and preventing abuse. To limit spam, the API stores a daily count associated with a hashed IP address. Cloudflare also processes connection information to deliver and protect the service.

You can withdraw your request and ask for deletion by emailing us. Waitlist records and daily anti-abuse counts currently have no automatic expiry; records are removed manually when no longer needed or following a valid deletion request. We do not use waitlist addresses for unrelated marketing.

On your device

The app stores your auditions, original casting material, briefs, plans, notes, profile, headshot, rep book and wardrobe on your device. Only add material you have permission to use and send for processing. Your device backups may also contain app data, depending on your Apple settings.

AI processing

With your permission in Settings → Sending, text from the material you add goes through our server to Anthropic’s Claude AI. Relevant casting profile details, rep book entries, wardrobe information and audition context may accompany it to personalise your brief and answers. PDFs and screenshots are read on your device; their extracted text is sent.

Our server does not store the original casting emails or sides in its database or application logs. This is not a promise of zero retention by every provider. Anthropic’s standard commercial API policy generally deletes inputs and outputs within 30 days, with exceptions including safety and legal obligations. See Anthropic’s retention policy. Commercial API content is not used for training by default. You can stop further sending in the app’s settings; this does not recall data already processed.

Accounts, usage and optional sync

Our server stores a random account ID, hashed access tokens, any redeemed invite code and request, token and audition counts needed to operate the service and apply limits. Optional daily usage reports contain counts and the app version rather than casting text. They can be turned off in Settings → Share usage numbers; they start off for actors aged 16 or 17. Our basis for essential service processing is providing the service you request; for optional usage statistics it is our legitimate interest in understanding and improving the app.

If you turn on Back up and sync, the server also stores your synced audition records, briefs, notes, plans, questions, profile, rep book and wardrobe, so linked devices can retrieve them. Original emails, sides and headshots are excluded from sync. Derived briefs and notes may still contain personal information or short quotations.

Account data remains until the account is deleted. Settings → Delete account removes the account and associated database records. Provider operational logs and backups follow the provider’s retention arrangements.

Service providers

Providers may process information outside the UK, including in the United States. Their contractual data-processing and international-transfer terms apply. Contact us for details of the arrangements for your data.

Website storage

We use session storage to remember a referral code within your browser tab. The site has no advertising trackers. Google Fonts and Cloudflare receive the technical information needed to serve their resources.

Your rights

You can ask to access, correct, erase or receive a copy of your personal information, restrict its use, object where we rely on legitimate interests, or withdraw consent. Rights depend on the processing involved. Email hello@callthehalf.com. We normally respond within one month. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.

Age and changes

The app is intended for actors aged 16 and over. We will update this notice when the service changes and draw attention to significant changes.
